BDA praises Lloyds TSB

18 February 2013

The British Deaf Assocation has praised Lloyds TSB for becoming the first UK bank to enable Deaf customers to contact them online in their own language - British Sign Language.

David Buxton, the BDA's chieft executive, said today:

"This is a very welcome news. For Deaf people, whose first language is BSL, the experience of dealing with their bank can be frustrating and depressing. I am delighted that Lloyds has decided to treat all its customers equally, and I very much hope other banks will follow suit."

David added:

"I also hope that other major companies will consider how they can make it easier for users of British Sign Language to deal with them."
