BDA TO HOST HISTORIC DEAF LOBBY AT WESTMINSTER

19 March 2014

Over 120 Deaf people will join the British Deaf Association (BDA) at Westminster Hall today for an historic Lobby of Parliament.

The BDA has been granted rare permission by the authorities at the Houses of Parliament to hold the Lobby as part of its Sign Language Week 2014.

The event will give Deaf people the chance to talk to their Members of Parliament about key issues of concern involving health, language and communication support.

David Buxton, BDA Chief Executive, said: "We hope Deaf people will take this unique opportunity and engage with their elected representatives on issues that really concern them. “

The theme of Sign Language Week is "Strengthening Our Rights". The Lobby will signal the start of a week of activities nationwide including a BSL Symposium in Central London.

There will be regular updates on Facebook (British Deaf Association) and Twitter (@bda_deaf)
