MP PUBLISHES EDM 1197 ON ACCESS TO WORK

21 March 2014

Following a meeting with constituent John Smith at the BDA's Deaf Lobby on Monday, Sir Alan Meale, the Member of Parliament for Mansfield, tabled an Early Day Motion expressing concern about the new policy from the Department for Work and Pensions requiring Deaf people in receipt of Access to Work to employ a full-time salaried support worker.

EDM 1197 was published on Tuesday (March 18) and is already picking up Members signatures.

Early Day Motions are used by MPs to draw the attention of the Commons to a particular issue. If an EDM attracts hundreds of signatures from MPs of all parties it is likely to result in some kind of response from the Government.

The BDA is therefore calling on all of its members and supporters to contact their MPs now and ask them to sign EDM 1197.
