NEW LOOK: July issue of British Deaf News Out Now!

26 June 2014
The July 2014 issue of Britain’s leading Deaf magazine, British Deaf News is out now!

It’s the name you recognise, but with a new look, a new editor and a new direction.

And what other way to land than with an exclusive? For the first time in 50 years, the British Deaf Association uncovers the lost films and videos of the Deaf community. Glimpse history for yourself with rare and precious scenes from the 1930s to the present day, including iconic footage of Princess Diana communicating via British Sign Language.

If it sounds like something straight out of a movie then that’s because this issue is dedicated to film and media. Actress, Rachel Shenton talks to us from her new home in LA, where she joins the cast of hit U.S. Deaf-friendly TV show, Switched At Birth and confesses what life is really like in Hollywood.

We feature the ‘reel’ highlights of film festival, Deaffest 2014 and we get an insider’s moving farewell letter from Terry Riley, who steps down as CEO of the British Sign Language Broadcasting Trust. He shares photos from his private collection and reveals the highs and lows of a 30-year career in television.

If that’s not enough, we look at how Deaf characters are portrayed in the media and ask what you’re doing to ensure you’re being heard.

The only question left to ask is, why haven’t you got your copy?

Keep up to date with interviews, exclusives, campaigns and special features each month!

Don’t miss out on our August issue out on 25 July when we take on the world and cover global Deaf issues, with the help of an Oscar-winning actress, a popular politician and a lifelong activist.

For the first time, we are sharing the issue here with you.
