BDA Annual Conference 2012

Hundreds of BDA members travelled to Edinburgh for the BDA's Annual Conference at the beginning of November.

One of the keynote speakers was Colin Allen, the President of theWorld Federation of the Deaf. The WFD is one of the oldest disability  organisations in the world, established in 1951. He told the conference that theWFD is truly global – at the 2011 WFD World Congress, 133
national associations of the Deaf attended, representing over 70 million Deaf people in all five continents of the world.

The second key note speaker was Mark Griffin, who is a Member of the Scottish Parliament. Griffin has a personal connection to deafness because his grandparents were deafblind. He told the conference that the consultation on the BSL Bill (Scotland) has just been completed.
