BDA (NI) - Confidence Building Workshop

7 December 2012

Recently the BDA (NI) ran a very successful confidence building workshop delivered by Sue Barry, a local Deaf trainer, facilitated by funding from Bombardier. During the day, delegates were encouraged to participate in discussions about situations in which they lacked confidence. Everyone had a lot of opportunities to do role play and practise being assertive and saying no. Delegates learned to value themselves and stop worrying about what other people think of them: -

Michaela
“The course was very different to any others I had been on and the atmosphere was relaxed and supportive.”

Fatou
“I learned about feeling positive and feeling negative and the importance of focusing on positive feelings.”

Mary
“The most interesting thing I learned was how to be assertive and say no.”

Louise
“This workshop was a good opportunity to develop my confidence; I had heard about it from friends who had been on the course before so was looking forward to coming along.”

Beth
“I am glad I came; I enjoyed meeting new faces and learned a lot about being confident.”
