As part of the tenth anniversary of the recognition of British Sign Language, Sir Malcolm Bruce MP has put down an "Early Day Motion" (a kind of parliamentary petition) that calls for the government to do more to support BSL users.

We want as many MPs as possible to sign this to get the government to take notice. So please email your MP and ask them to sign the EDM. You can use the email below - please personalise this as much as you can because MPs respond best to personal messages. Tell them a bit about yourself and the problems you face as a Deaf BSL user.

To find out who your MP is, click on http://findyourmp.parliament.uk and enter your postcode.

To get the MP's email address, you then click on the MP's name and use the email address under “Parliamentary”. It should end “.parliament.uk”.

Dear Mr/Ms...

I am writing as one of your constituents. My postcode is ................... I am Deaf and my preferred language is British Sign Language.

Ten years ago, on 18 March 2003, the government officially recognised British Sign Language. While today's  government is doing some things to help Deaf BSL users like me, we still face problems every day. For example, ......................................................................

Please would you sign Early Day Motion 1167, which urges the government to do more to support Deaf BSL users in this tenth anniversary year.

I know that EDMs don't change the world, but every little helps! I really hope I can count on your support.

Yours sincerely
